I am afraid of not being talented enough. Shall I be worried?
Not at all, as there is nothing scary about playing the piano, and you certainly do not need any special talent to learn how to play the piano.
It is not as complicated as it could seem. At S & C, you can be ensured to benefit from the highest piano education in a non-judgemental and relaxed environment.
Our piano instructors are incredibly patient. They will always take the time you need to understand what it is required from you to do, before teaching you new concepts.
We can assure you that there is truly nothing to worry about!
Which instrument should I purchase as a piano beginner?
There is a large variety of instruments you are welcome to choose from.
At S & C, we always recommend our students to practise on acoustic pianos, but we also understand that noise could be an issue. In this case, you could undoubtedly purchase or hire a digital piano.
In terms of acoustic pianos, you can either choose a grand or an upright piano. It all depends on the space you have available in your residence.
Our favourite brands are Steinway & Sons, Bosendorfer, Fazioli, Schimmel and Bechstein, but you can also find excellent Yamaha, Bluthner or Kawai pianos.
If you prefer the option of getting a digital piano, Yamaha, Kawai and Roland have produced beautiful instruments.
As long as they have a standard keyboard that includes 88 keys, and that their keys are ‘weighted’, any digital instrument that costs at least 1400 AED should be fine.

What will happen during my very first piano lesson as an absolute beginner?
Your first piano lesson at S & C will be dedicated to learning the fundamentals of piano playing.
It will include the basics of music theory and the learning of a few music notes as well as simple rhythms. This basic knowledge will allow you to play some simple tunes straight away.
Your piano instructor will also take some time to talk to you, to adapt his or her teaching methods to your personal needs and wishes.
We need to ensure that you benefit from a solid piano education, and we always make sure that each step is fully covered before moving up to the next level.
How long does it take to learn how to play the piano?
It all depends on the standard of piano playing you wish to achieve.
Playing straightforward melodies, hands separately takes a few minutes, but playing as well as the world’s greatest pianists takes about 25 years of very hard work (up to 10 hours of practice each day).
These are extreme scenarios, but you should plan to play for at least a year before being able to play at the satisfactory standard, which would include a good understanding of the basics of music theory, some simple technical skills and the beginning of the understanding of music interpretation.
Acquiring a right and solid piano foundation takes time, but learning correctly, without trying to make any short cuts, will ensure a higher success later!
If you are consistent and follow the advice of your piano instructor, you will assuredly succeed greatly. You will become the proficient pianist you have always dreamt of being!
